Officials from India plan to encourage the Chinese government to continue a ban on the internal trade of tiger parts at a meeting in Beijing this week. Wildlife conservationists feared that China was considering lifting the ban under pressure from tiger farms.
Wildlife experts estimate that only 20 tigers remain in the wild in China, but over 5000 live their lives on tiger farms, as the farmers hope to make money in tiger parts should the ban be lifted. India also feels that the demand for tiger parts in Chinese medicine has increased the level of poaching withing India's borders.
